From his early heavier experimental bass explorations to his current garage- and breakbeat-influenced direction, his sound has absorbed inspiration from every chapter, weaving them into a vibrant mosaic. This journey culminates with his latest Heartbeat EP, a stunning, meticulously crafted project that radiates emotion and texture. True to Daisy Chain’s core value of “quality,” this project is no exception.
The EP opens with “Heartbeat,” a collaboration with Elohim. It immediately draws us in through sparse, deliberate elements: crisp drums, a deep reese bass, and Elohim’s siren-like vocals. A hypnotic synth slides beneath her voice, slowly building tension like a rising tide. When the drop lands, a four-on-the-floor rhythm expands the soundscape into a mesmerizing, oceanic world.
It’s the kind of track that feels like plunging into deep water, exhilarating and a little dangerous, but entirely irresistible. Elohim’s vocals alternate between lyrical lines and airy chops, swirling around the listener in a weightless trance. Right from minute one, Player Dave reminds us of his ability to create immersive, emotional spaces that demand surrender.
“When you touch me, I can feel my heartbeat”
Track two, “v@por,” continues the EP’s hypnotic world-building. A previously released single, it centers on chopped, slightly indecipherable vocal samples that eventually resolve into the phrase “I can’t stop,” echoing what listeners will feel once they hit play.
Player Dave flexes his talent for sculpting rich atmospheres around punchy, precise drums. The second drop strips the track back to its bare essentials. The vocal chops become the atmosphere themselves before everything grows back again into the wide, expanding sonic landscape of the song.
The third track, “Microjoy,“ featuring Allegra Miles, continues crafting the EP’s glimmering, underwater world. A bouncing arp and crisp think break usher in Allegra’s breathy vocal riffs, which echo infectiously throughout the track.
Here, PD proves that simplicity can be powerful. The drum production is minimal but precise, allowing Allegra’s vocals and the deep legato bass to hold the atmosphere together. As the song closes, its elements disperse all at once and flicker out like a flame, leaving behind a lingering, bittersweet glow.
“I want you the way you want me”
Closing the project is “the way you want me,” another previously released collaboration with Elohim. Her dreamy vocals build the track’s emotional build before giving way to a blissful garage drop. Where lovey-dovey lyrics like, “I want you the way you want me,” echo through. PD’s metallic drum textures interlock with arpeggiated synths, creating a rhythm that carries Elohim’s swooning lyrics perfectly.
Player Dave’s proven production skills shine here with lush sound design, emotive melodies, and a tactile sense of atmosphere that makes each track feel like fractals of an intricate new world.
