Spring Awakening: Autumn Equinox was a memorable and perfect kickoff for Fall in the city of Chicago. The React Presents team brought the fest back to its 2018 stomping grounds of Adams/Medill Park. In the heart of west side Chicago, the backdrop of the city skyline wasn’t the only breathtaking experience.
The comeback was strong, and so was the production.
So let’s talk about the completely new and revamped layout of the fest itself. With four brand new and uniquely curated stages, there was a little something for everyone. The solstice stage was uniquely designed with stacked screen visuals allowing for every eye in the crowd to be able to see. The stage also blew us away by being shaped like the path of a sun solstice. So creative! In addition, you could escape from the action and head over to the silent disco. But wait there was more! For the first time, Spring Awakening welcomed the Corona Electric Beach stage where beats met the sand.
Day 1: The Rise of Autumn
On day 1, despite a thunderstorm causing a mid-afternoon evacuation, the fest was back up and running within a few hours, thanks to the efforts of the Spring Awakening team. The day was filled with various talents including a Night Bass takeover at the Function stage and Higher Ground at the Hangar. It was an EXTREMELY tough decision on who to see when massive acts Excision, Galantis, Diplo, and AC Slater all closed out night one.
Day 2: Autumn Equinox in Full Effect
On day 2, the vibes were immaculate and we partied in the rain. Wreckno kicked the day off and gave us exactly what we needed to power through. The whole crowd was going absolutely bonkers to “Medusa” in the pouring rain and it was nothing short of awesome.
Switching to sad boi hours over at the Equinox stage, Said the Sky carried on through the rain with an absolutely beautiful set. I mean who wouldn’t want to dance and sing to his brand new single, “Go On Then Love” in the rain? Truly a beautiful moment.
The rest of the night was spent running from stage to stage to catch Dillion Francis, Adventure Club b2b Wooli, Martin Garrix, and RL Grime b2b Baauer.
And most importantly, a very special Doctor P b2b Funtcase set that was a tribute to the beloved dubstep don, Cookie Monsta.
Spring Awakening: Autumn Equinox was quite the treat!
P.S. If anyone knows how to get 20lbs of mud off of Doc Martens let us know in the comments.
