Excitement builds as Electric Hawk’s first Takeover at Black Box is only days away. These events are curated to allow emerging artists to be dauntless in the heart of Denver. The Black Box is a widely loved venue and playing there is like a rite of passage in our scene. Let’s dive in and get to know the lineup: Confidon, LSTree, Ancestyr, and A Sword in the Stone!

Get to Know: Confidon

Finding solace in your work is an integral part of being an artist, something Confidon knows quite well. He’s had a connection with music since he was a kid. Confidon started as a trumpet player and eventually joined the marching band later in school.

“I developed a lot of bad habits after graduating high school in 2020. I started producing music in Ableton Live in February of 2021 which helped me through a lot of stuff during that time of my life. I guess in those moments, and still to this day making music helps me process my thoughts and create my own world. It’s where I’ve felt I can express myself easier than anything else.”

He holds a lot of love and respect for not only himself but his ambition. Confidon’s work is a true manifestation of his growth as a young man. You can physically feel this throughout his work. It’s soothing and stimulating, reminiscent of Supertask – but uniquely juvenile. I look forward to seeing how Confidon evolves over the coming years. Also, a little Hawkie told me that he’s sitting on several hours worth of unreleased music, so keep your eyes glued to this project!

Get to know: LSTree

Dubstep. Downtempo. Hip-hop. Mix all of those together and you get LSTree. Much of his work is inspired by hip-hop. He frequently uses hip-hop drums and distorted 808s to really solidify his tracks. He even has some remixes in the works from artists like Luniz, Young Dolph (R.I.P), and Migos. The Indianapolis-based artist has had an exciting year of releases with labels such as The Gradient Perspective and MartianGang. Music is his passion and something he’s dreamed of pursuing since childhood.

“I can recall being as young as 4 years old listening to the Tarzan movie soundtrack written by Phil Collins. I would sit in my parents’ rocking recliner chair and rock that chair back and forth moving to the music. It made me feel a different type of feeling than I had before. I think I’ve always known music has been a passion since that moment.”

After an eventful adventure at Bass Ribbon Pines, LSTree couldn’t be more excited for his next endeavors. Keep doing what you’re doing, LSTree. Every win for you is another smile on your inner child’s face.

Get to know: Ancestyr

This New York-based artist has had an amazing year so far. In April, he did a guest mix on Ravenscoon‘s radio show, In the Nest. The first time I listened to the mix, it had me geeking on a Lime scooter off the penjamin. This is a great summertime mix, so I highly suggest listening if you haven’t already. It’s full of some crazy doubles.

“Last year when I was conceptualizing the branding for this project I knew I wanted to have a focus on deer gods and stags as a main theme alongside nature, as well as a touch of Gaelic/Celtic/Norse themes too, reaching back to my Irish and Scottish heritage. My friend then brought up one of the characters in Elden Ring, a deer spirit called the ‘Ancestor Spirit.’ That inspired the name Ancestor within me, and I decided to swap the O for a Y to add a unique flair and a touch of the Norse language style.”

We still have a month and some change left until summer is over but Ancestyr continues to make his presence known. After his Denver debut, he’ll be making his way to Fire Lights Festival, then opening for  G Jones in Buffalo, NY. Expect frequent releases this year, and big moves the next!

Get to Know: A Sword in the Stone

A Sword in the Stone rides in with a unique spin to his craft. Taking inspiration from animals, nature, and fantasy media, he does an impressive job of setting a specific tone and carrying it throughout the song. The album art, names, and tones of the songs are all intentional.

“I find adventure in the settings I’ve visually and audibly created. I really feel as though my project is one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences. You get to be in a giant crowd with the sounds of swords and horses running towards you in the distance. You can hear the energetic and eerie build-up with experimental synth patterns, deep percussion, and drums along with extremely loved and inspired sounds from nature and farm life.”

I personally look forward to hearing more from him as I am a fellow nerd myself. Seeing him name off IPs like Fallout (based), The Lord of the Rings, and Dungeons and Dragons as an influence, I knew I’d be a fan.
