Deep, Dark and Dangerous is bringing us yet another highly awaited label release, just in time for the fall season. Coming at you with some of the sickest sound design in the game, Abstrakt Sonance has hand-picked a round-up of his favorite tracks created throughout the last eight years of the project. His newest album, Nature of Things, is a combination of previously played out tracks, with the addition of some never-before-played-out heaters. Abstrakt Sonance‘s Nature of Things is a showcase of the development and synchronicity of the project. With tracks dating back to 2017, the album is commemorative, giving listeners an inside view into the project’s range.
“Nature of Things spoke to us and it’s time to unleash it into the wild” – Truth
Abstrakt Sonance has a long standing history with the Deep, Dark and Dangerous family. Since his initial mix release through the label (Deep, Dark and Dangerous Mix001) in 2016, the Canadian experimental bass producer has secured several DDD releases. Through single drops, guest mixes, and now two full album releases, Abstrakt Sonance has cemented himself as one of the greatest to work alongside the Deep, Dark and Dangerous team. With a hankering for the clearest sound systems and insane sound design, it is abundantly clear why DDD has stuck with Abstrakt Sonance through a massive portion of the project’s releases. Describing this album release through the label as a “beautiful full circle moment,” the album marks a point of immense pride in the project.
Getting In Tune With Abstrakt Sonance’s Nature of Things:
Throughout Nature of Things, we see an abundance of variability in production. Starting us out with a few heavy hitters, Abstrakt Sonance shows that he means business immediately.
Breaking It Down:
The LP’s first three tracks are an introduction to the producer’s masterful use of drums and finely tuned basslines. As the album continues, variability in production between tracks is filled with intent, with a huge shift occurring in the transition from the third track, “Slaughterhouse”, to the fourth track, “Break us”. Introducing a softer tone, while maintaining overall moodiness, “Break Us” is our first introduction to vocals on Nature of Things. At the album’s end, we are reintroduced to the track’s “heartbreak mix”, where snares and vocals shine through. The tension resulting from hearing two mixes of the same track allows us to explore the producer’s mind, visualizing the many pathways that may diverge within a single track.
Dissecting The Nature of Things:
From here, we enter a huge change in track pace, in which we reach every 140 fans dream scenario. The midlaying track, “My Killydem”, featuring Coltcuts and Saskilla, is a grimy, high-energy tribute to 140 in itself. Immediately following this, we hear massive collab “Skipping Flights” with Wraz, Reed Stark and Tomemos, a bubbly and playful track. It seems as if the artists are using the track to have a conversation, bouncing back and forth between basslines. This center portion of the LP is energetic, heavy-hitting, and sets the stage for a perfectly-rounded album.
The final three tracks on Nature of Thingsfeel like the end of a journey through the Abstrakt Sonance project. The LP’s final track, “You See Me,” is incredibly tongue-in-cheek, a cocky yet fun way of wrapping up the piece. It seems to be the artist’s way of saying, “Here it is and here I am, enjoy. “You See Me is a wonderful way to wrap up an album that can only be described as monumental.
“This album is a special collection of work from as early as 2017. Some of these tunes I’ve been holding on for years and years and years and waiting for the right home for them to land with – alongside some of my most recent productions.
