OPIUO just came out swinging with his latest release, ASCENSION SEEKER, which was launched on September 19th. It’s been three years since his last full-length album, and we are certainly not disappointed by his reactivation. This album is a testament to perseverance in the face of darkness and rising above challenging times. Life can throw all sorts of curveballs. Learning how to navigate them, fighting the resistance, and ultimately ascending is no easy task, but OPIUO expresses his ability to overcome in ASCENSION SEEKER.
The Art of Feeling Sound
In a recent post, OPIUO revealed that he is half deaf and has experienced acute ear issues throughout his life. He has undergone multiple operations, during which parts of his ear were removed and his skull was opened. Despite the surgeries and the challenges faced, this limitation has been a motivation. Without any hesitation, the first song on the album, “ASCENSION SEEKER,” is a wake-up call that hits heavy. The track has multiple exhilarating build-ups and some jump-up drum and bass action. Drum n’ bass has been gaining popularity in the U.S. over the past few years, but this snippet has that OPIUO crunch that you just want to munch on. Playing with genres, there are even some elements of techno sprinkled into this album.
Featuring Ass Shakers and Art Makers
What good are goals if you don’t have a team to achieve them with? The features on this album truly stand out because they’re not overdone. They’re genuine collaborations with lyrical elements between creative minds, rather than hastily assembled song fragments.
“MEKKE FLEX,” featuring K+Lab and ProbCause, is the ultimate groovy squad tune. “ALTITUDE MISFITS” with Brotha Nature is heavy, yet it lifts listeners at light speed through layers of the atmosphere with its deep vibrations and reverberating bass. Other featured artists include a unique range of exciting talents, such as Wreckno, Duffrey, Mr. Bill, The Sponges, and Dreamers Delight, who all add their own distinct sounds to amplify this already theatrical album.
Then there’s “TALA ROCKET,” a track named after OPIUO’s daughter. This is a tribute to the beautiful energy she brings into the world. It’s a lively and uplifting tune that will keep your spirit buoyant. Like many of the songs, it serves as a reminder that ascension isn’t just a solo triumph.
The album closes with “AETHERS THEME” featuring Dreamers Delight. Keeping with the ascension motif, Aether was the Greek personification of the heavens and the so-called “fifth element.” It was thought to be the pure essence that the gods breathed. This final track captures what it would be like to step into an ethereal heaven. The lyric “I must be dreaming” serves as both a nod to Dreamers Delight and an ode to a euphoric breakthrough. It’s the hero’s ending and the moment of realization that every decision has led up to this divine celebration.
Overall, this album is a demonstration of auditory ascendance. OPIUO has given a new meaning to being a magnificent maestro in the ever-evolving world of music. Longtime fans will hear the subtle difference in emotion when they listen from top to bottom. There’s a sense that something previously unknown has been unlocked, and it’s a curiously exciting sensation.
