While waiting for Lizzy Jane’s highly anticipated EP, Ignite, she’s released her first single, “Washed Away” with Dome of Doom. Lizzy Jane wrote this piece when she felt “voiceless, lost, and uncertain.” An incredibly relatable flurry of emotions that can ultimately lead to a feeling of insanity if you’re stuck in the same cycle. We are excited to have you here for the exclusive premiere of “Washed Away” for a very special look into the development of this track.

Let’s sit down, listen, and see what gets Washed Away.

Lizzy Jane is a powerful singer-songwriter who combines her love for pop and electronic music. The track starts with Lizzy Jane’s vocals cutting through the ethereal, glittery elements that kick us off. The lyrics strike us with intense emotions right away. “Washed away, the subtle rights and wrongs, the time you told me my choice mattered that’s when men came along. Protected? That’s when you laughed in my face.” Who was laughing in her face? Lizzy Jane reminisces on the time she wrote the lyrics to this track – when Roe v. Wade was overturned. Although this fueled the creation of this track, she emphasizes there are many ways to interpret this song.

It’s about overcoming the sense of uncertainty and loss of control and understanding that no matter what lane you take in your life, you do have control. But you do have to speak up for it and you can’t just let life pass you by.

As the track paints a capsule of emotions, the vocals cut out, and the suspense builds and piques our interest. “Our voices washed away…” The beat intensifies and Lizzy Jane’s vocals come back in, she sounds angry… and she has every right to be. You can feel her emotions not only through the lyrics but also the way the beat sways in intensities. All of the elements overcome our emotions allowing us to feel anger, sadness, and ultimately a sense of peace at the end… “You think it’s strange, what a game to play. Cause in my head he said I’ll be okay.”

“It’s a whole cycle of dusk to dawn. Starting from darkness to self-discovery and light and ultimately being content and happy on the path that you’re on.”

As we sit and reflect on the emotional journey Lizzy Jane has perfectly curated for us, we cannot help but get excited for the rest of the Ignite EP. To be vulnerable and allow others to feel a sense of pain and uncertainty through music is something so special. Be sure to catch her on tour with MitiS if she’s coming to a venue near you.
