Oh boy did we catch a (heat)wave last weekend! Being its inaugural year, Heatwave Music Festival did not disappoint. The pop art themed festival hosted by Auris Presents came in heavy with a two day lineup full of all our favorites from Galantis to Zeds Dead.

Two Days of Dancing

I think everyone can agree that both Saturday and Sunday of Heatwave’s lineup had us all dancing the whole weekend.

On day one of Heatwave us festival goers got a great mix of music. It was the perfect start to the day with a local Chicago DJ, Jakeshoredrive, at the Radiance Stage. From there we got to see Rome In Silver and Oliver Heldens. Then closed the night out dancing to Yellow Claw and RL Grime.

On Sunday the fire lineup continued. Łaszewo absolutely killed their set and had the crowd singing a long to so many new hits like “Till U Hate Me” and “U Taste Like Sundays.” After that we changed the vibe up to catch two insane females, Canabliss and then GG Magree. Both these ladies dominated their sets and kept the crowd grooving. Kasbo’s DJ set was the perfect vibe before heading over to catch Blunts & Blondes. Then of course the weekend ended with a killer set by an Electric Hawk favorite, Zeds Dead.

The Art, Food, and More of Heatwave Music Festival!

We couldn’t forgot to explore the art between the sets all weekend. Some of the are included massive, colorful blow up rubber ducks to an amazing installation by the abstract freestyle pop artist Pretty Done. From Chicago themed pop art banners surrounding the festival and all the other amazing artwork, there was many amazing photo opportunities.

I have to give a huge round of applause for the bathroom situation here as well. Most festivals I get stuck in the awful lines and miss parts of sets. Not at Heatwave though, I was able to run in and out quick to get back to dancing with my group.

The food here was also something to admire! From different food trucks to pizza, there was something to make everyone happy. I personally munched down mainly on Connie’s Pizza all weekend, and it was life changing.

Overall, for their first year Heatwave really did bring the heat for this festival! Amazing music, art, food, and just overall amazing vibes. I personally am hoping this festival will be back next year and become a staple Chicago festival like Northcoast and Lollapalooza.
