Redrum has won our hearts over many, many times before. But now, the supreme witch has truly locked us down. Redrum returns with her debut EP Pisces Moon on Liquid Stranger’s downtempo imprint, SSKWAN, and we are blown away.
Using music and producing as a vessel for her healing, Redrum created an EP full of emotion. Pisces Moon is raw, skillful, and transporting. And althought the 4 tracks do not contain any vocals, each have a meaning deeper than what the surface-level gives off.
When I finished writing this EP, it was right around the time of a New Moon in Pisces. New Moons represent rebirth and new beginnings, and writing this EP really felt like closing a chapter on my life. I wrote each of these pieces originally as a way to process the trauma of losing my father, who is the reason I got into music in the first place. Each piece is a part of my healing process.Redrum
If you didn’t know, we at Electric Hawk have been long-time Redrum fans! We were lucky enough to premiere the first single from Pisces Moon, “Phases,” earlier this year. This track is an instant hook, thanks to its bubbly rhythm and texturized sound design.
Written with the intent to never release, Redrum takes listeners on an glimmering journey through the senses with “Floating.” Its mellow demeanor invites us to truly fall into the track and sit with the feeling.
A little more upbeat, “Dreamy” is a captivating listen. Redrum shows off her skills once again with layers upon layers of sounds we cannot get enough of. The echoing vocals singing along the track give off a sense of haunting, which is a common theme for Redrum.
Being Redrum’s personal favorite track off Pisces Moon, “Divine” is a final release of her grief. The sense of a brighter horizon is evident and positivity shines throughout this one. It is a beautiful ending to a deeply meaningful EP.
