The good folks from across the pond have long known of the magic of drum and bass. The appropriately monikered genre has been a long-standing mainstay in their electronic music scene. Only recently has the genre become commonplace again in the US. That’s not to say it hasn’t always been around, alive and well in the underground. It has patiently waited for its return to the limelight and that patience has finally paid off. Enter: “Tilted,” Electric Hawk artist Cntrlla’s new drum and bass tune and his first foray into the genre.
Full Tilt Into ‘Tilted’
The initial intro, even with its frenetic drums, does little to give away the coming tempest. It is only when the vocals fade in that a sense of urgency is felt. The track crescendos before dropping you headfirst into a cacophony of distortion-laden sound design. For the listener, the only choice is to dive in at full tilt.
Wasting no time blasting the listener at full volume, “Tilted” conveys all it needs to in one 90 second drop. The ferocious bassline sits proudly atop a full and frenetic smattering of breakbeat drums and percussion. Coming in hot with a freight load of “f**k off” energy, it’s loads of fun. It’s a tune that is sure to cause a fervor on the dancefloor.

New Genres, Familiar Sounds
Those who are already familiar with Cntrlla’s sludge-filled slimepunk sound should know by now that there’s no cookie cutter formula to his tunes. With every release, he continues to push the envelope of what he considers his sound to be. That trend doesn’t stop with “Tilted.” He can show off his own style while experimenting with a genre he has not previously explored.
Appleton, Wisconsin may not have the same legacy as a place like Bristol, UK – but Cntrlla is doing his best to put the fruit-forward hamlet on the map with ‘Tilted.’ Listen to it, and all of Cntrlla”s tunes, below.
