Community is the most fundamental part of EDM culture. Everywhere you look, you’ll see an abundance of diverse personalities complied into different groups and niches. What originally started as a source for solo ravers to find a crew for Bass Canyon turned into something more than anyone could have imagined.
The OG Era

Zach Odegard (AKA 50Tree) created the Bass Canyon Discord server on June 19th, 2019. I joined the sever about a month after its creation, and the weeks leading up to Bass Canyon were some of the most memorable moments of my life. The love and wholesomeness that I was welcomed with was unlike anything I’ve experienced in an online community. These strangers I met opened my eyes to real peace and happiness. For the first time in my life I finally felt like I belonged. Bass Canyon 2019 was my first festival, and I truly wish I could experience that magical weekend again.
Traction in the server after Bass Canyon 2019 continued rising with every major PNW dance music event. It turned out that there were a lot of people in our region that were trying to find their place in the scene. Many of our days consisted of video games, making kandi, and getting ready for events over chat. We all slowly began breaking of our shells during that time, as many of us were going through a lot in 2019. Unfortunately, those troubles didn’t stop, going into 2020 when COVID hit.
All my friends (are pinging)
Many of our lives were interrupted, and the only place we found solace was in the Bass Canyon discord server. Doing our best to spread positivity, we became the light in the dark that people needed. We managed to grow the server to over 2,000 members from all over the world. You may ask, “How did you do that?” Well, do not underestimate the power of White Claws, beans, and obnoxious music. Those are like Infinity Stones for dubstep enjoyers.
The feral behavior that took place during that time did end up paying off, though. We got to connect and play video games with artists like Dion Timmer and BVSSIC. We are forever grateful for getting the chance to show some of our favorite artists our community. After all, we wouldn’t be together if it weren’t for their music.

Home
As time went on, our bond continued growing stronger. We remained dedicated to making sure we maintained a healthy and safe community. Although we will never see the same engagement as in previous years, we still strive to spread the love online and through community events.
“The server will still continue to connect solo ravers or just ravers who need an extra friend or two. Music is the language we all speak.”
Zach Odegard (AKA 50Tree)

The beauty that blossomed from the Bass Canyon discord server created engagements, marriages, babies and careers. Watching the growth of not only others but myself showed me that there’s more to music than surface level enjoyment. Music is home. Whether we are online or looking over the hilltop of The Gorge, the love we share through music is always there.
