After traveling through the galaxy, the epic return of Tractorbeam arrived at The Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO, on February 11th. Tractorbeam is a pseudonym that The Disco Biscuits originally played under from 2008-2009. Continuing periodically throughout the 2010s, Tractorbeam saw the band playing instrumental versions of their originals and covers. In 2019, Tractorbeam evolved to focus on playing live versions of house and disco songs, using Ableton Live to sync their live instruments.

Tractorbeam revives for the first time in five years to celebrate the ending of the first leg of the Biscuits’ Why We Dance Tour. This new iteration of Tractorbeam – dubbed Tractorbeam v3.0 – combines the older and newer styles. Now resulting in a 2+ hour live performance reminiscent of a DJ Set, complete with samples of classics [Imogen Heap, No Doubt, Tiesto, Chase & Status] and jams. Overall, Tractorbeam delivered to their devoted audience, leaving everyone who attended craving another show in the future!

“We’ve had an unbelievable three weeks out west and here in Colorado. We feel like it’s the best tour we’ve ever had and the best crew we’ve ever had, and we really appreciate your support. We feel extremely grateful right now. A lot of gratitude for everything.”

Marc Brownstein of The Disco Biscuits

Mission Completed by the whole Tractorbeam crew!

With a full house, you could feel the eagerness in the air as the murmurs within the crowd elevated. Fans discuss the fascinating week from the band and how they have evolved into different extraterrestrial beings on this tour. And once the lights dimmed and the house music lowered, the roaring cheers from the crowd vibrated amongst the intimate venue. On the stage, the band’s silhouettes appear. As we notice them in their legendary tracksuits, soaking in the energy, and with a quick nod amongst everyone, the vocals of “Hide and Seek” from Imogen Heap erupt.

Immediately, the crowd falls into the mesmerizing environment that Tractorbeam has carefully crafted for us. Through the hazy scene, strobes, and lasers of the Tractorbeam stage design, the crowd is fully immersed in the cosmic wavelengths of the dancefloor. While the temperature rises, the band transports everyone through their spacecraft while they become in sync with their bodies. In the background, you can hear the emerging plucks of “Another Plan of Attack, and the audience instantly follows in rhythm. Now, the floor begins to groove more as “Hella Good” by No Doubt samples emerge along with “Another Plan of Attack.” Officially, Tractorbeam creates the best intergalactic dancefloor in the West!

All we can do is keep on dancing!

Naturally, smiles all around and sweat building along our temples, Tractorbeam shifts gears towards the second half of their set. While the classic of “M1” plays in the background, the futuristic synths intensify, and flickering strobes build, we get a thundering drop of the “BOOM” sample from Tiësto & Sevenn. And with a massive cheer in the crowd, the electrifying energy is transcending amongst everyone. Following the shift, Tractorbeam astonishes the crowd with their guitar riffs and hypnotizing melodies that guide us through the cosmic wormhole.

To conclude the evening, Tractorbeam unleashed the lingering energy building up inside. Now, the dancefloor feels like a classic, nostalgic rave back in the golden days of electronic music. Officially sending everyone under Tractorbeam’s trance. Before we fully leave everything in the crowd, Tractorbeam sends a transmission to the ether. As the vibrations rattle our bones, a massive wave of groove & jam from “Svenghali, while accompanied by a drum and bass classic from Chase and Status, “Baddadan, filters the area. Officially reaching the end, Tractorbeam gives the crowd one more chance to escape before having to beam back to Earth. This time, with the full production amping up the audience, the climax reaches, and with full applause from everyone.

The first set of Tractorbeam v3.0 concludes, but the beginning of this new era of their sound has just begun!
