CØNTRA and Abstrakt Sonance aren’t just dropping an EP, they’re pulling you straight into the depths of Roots Revival, a bass-heavy journey soaked in dub, reggae, and raw sound system energy. While also bringing that same immersive vibe to life with a massive sold-out Denver headline at Cervantes’ on Thursday, March 26th, before taking it on the road across multiple states. From your headphones to a dancefloor with a proper sound system, this EP is one to experience and feel in full!

“Tyler (Abstrakt Sonance) and I wanted to create a body of work that reflected our shared connection to nature while honoring the roots of classic, minimal dubstep. Roots Revival — both the EP and tour — was born from our love of traditional sound system culture: massive rigs, deep low end, and a foundation rooted in reggae and dub. Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the woods, it felt natural to weave organic textures into the music, pairing them with hypnotic low end and subtle, wonky mid bass elements to create something both grounded and weighty.”

CØNTRA & Abstrakt Sonance pull you into the jungle of dub culture.
Step into the jungle and you’re met with the warm pulse of reggae-dub textures. CØNTRA and Abstrakt Sonance set the tone effortlessly, crafting a mellow, immersive atmosphere that pulls you into a steady, hypnotic groove. “Gideon” captures that sense of freedom and control, balancing carefree energy with intention. With captivating lyricism from Specialist Moss layered over rich, dubby tones, the track becomes instantly infectious, inviting listeners to sink in and move with it.
That energy carries into the EP’s title track, where the duo leans fully into deep dubstep’s weight, rumbling sub frequencies, and evolving synths pulling listeners into a hypnotic, meditative state. It’s a defining moment that highlights their ability to build a sonic world that feels both physical and emotional.
The journey darkens with “Encona,” as ILLAMAN adds an ominous edge that amplifies the duo’s low-end intensity, before transitioning into the more experimental “Obelisk.” Heavier and more distorted, the track balances tension and release while staying rooted in sound system tradition.
Closing with “Living Water,” CØNTRA and Abstrakt Sonance offer a moment of calm. TwinnFlame’s ethereal vocals bring a sense of serenity, allowing the EP to exhale as shimmering textures settle and the full journey sinks in.
With Roots Revival, CØNTRA and Abstrakt Sonance deliver more than just a collection of tracks. They create a cohesive, transportive experience rooted in dub, sound system culture, and spiritual energy. For those looking to escape and immerse themselves, this EP is a journey worth taking.

All about the culture and respecting the underground properly
CØNTRA and Abstrakt Sonance are set to celebrate the release of their Roots Revival EP this Thursday with a major sold-out headline show at Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver. Marking CØNTRA’s biggest headline to date, the night will serve as the official launch of a full-scale tour, giving both artists the space to showcase their collaboration in its intended form—immersive, intentional, and rooted in sound system culture.
To elevate the experience, the duo is bringing in Koja Sound, delivering pristine, high-fidelity audio for fans who value the depth and clarity of a proper system. The night will also feature the Esoterra Dance Troupe, adding a mystical, atmospheric layer that complements the project’s deeper, more spiritual tones.
Following the Denver kickoff, Roots Revival will travel across six states, staying true to its mission of reconnecting with the foundations of dubstep—drawing heavily from dub, reggae, and sound system traditions. Whether you experience it in Denver or catch a stop along the way, this is a tour built with intention and one you won’t want to miss if it lands in your city.
