When the Jade Cicada ‘Caverns’ show was announced, it almost seemed too good to be true. On Saturday (8/14), that sentiment sadly rang true. After being postponed since April 2020, fans were informed that the show was canceled via Jade’s Instagram.
The reasoning for the cancellation is stated clearly in the post. Due to the rapid spread of Covid variants + lack of vaccinations, the conditions are simply unsafe to throw a show. Especially in a cave where ventilation surely is below par. All of this piled on top of the uncertainty regarding Koan Sound, who would have to travel from the UK.
There are a couple of takeaways from this cancellation. The first is to please get tested and get vaccinated. Slowing the spread of Covid will lead to a normal life with no cancellations. The second? Do NOT blame the artist for the cancellation. This show has been postponed since April 2020, and as Jade mentions, it was “pretty much the only thing” he was looking forward to since the pandemic started. As gutted as you may be as a fan, it is 100x times worse for the artist. While the news is upsetting, we appreciate Jade and his team making safety the number one priority, and we hope to get groovy with him sooner rather than later.
