Attention garage heads everywhere: the latest release from Infernal Sounds is here and it’s a journey worth taking. Bristol-based producer and emcee, Hella, delivers an authentic, heartfelt project with his new EP, If We Make It. Straight from the UK underground, where we like our UKG best, this dynamic three-tracker captures the highs and lows of life, guiding listeners on an emotional ride that resonates deep within the soul.

Hella Reflections

Immediately, the EP kicks off with its title track, “If We Make It, drawing us in from the first beat. Hella’s reflections come rapidly and powerfully, inviting us to dive into the darkness of life and search for the light within it. As he muses on emptiness and resisting temptation on the path to success, the track gradually picks up pace. Tight garage drums and clean arp plucks swirl beneath his lyrics immaculately as the energy intensifies. Epic bass-heavy synths await us at the drops as we fly through Hella’s sonic speedway. When the track fades to a close, we hear the sound of a flickering signal, leaving us to wonder if we’ll make it to the other side. But if we do, Hella promises, “I’ll be sure to say hi.

A Hypnotic Hideout

Track Two — “Hideout ft. Lauren Walton” — lets us in on a secret relationship. Naturally, Lauren Walton’s sultry vocals express a desire for something deeper with a special someone, while also acknowledging the one-sided nature of the situation. A deep, gliding bass guides us through the track’s forbidden and sexy atmosphere. As the song progresses, the mesmerizing percussive elements and synths usher us toward the end, reminiscent of a night that’s drawing to a close too soon.

“When in doubt, draw from what’s around you.”

“Honey’s Smile” rounds out the EP as an infectious, upbeat banger. From the first moment, the track has us moving with its steady 2-step rhythm. Once the build intensifies, the drop hits hard, carrying with it the hypnotic vocal chops that morph and evolve throughout the song, sustaining a playful energy.

Hella shared his inspiration for the track:

“’Honey’s Smile‘ was actually written with a dog in my lap. I was dog-sitting a Pomeranian and had writer’s block at the time. When in doubt, draw from what’s around you. I tried to capture her accelerated energy in the drums and repetitive vocals that swamp the song, effectively imitating what it felt like to have her around. Energetic, fun, and beautiful.”

Even if you’ve never heard a garage tune in your life, this EP is one ride we absolutely encourage you to hop on. Join Hella on the journey through If We Make It–we’ll be sure to say hi on the other side.
