Happy Saturday, folks! We had the amazing opportunity to virtually sit down with the dynamic duo, ARMNHMR, to chat about their brand new EP, A Thousand Dreams. Grab your cold brew because this is one interview you don’t want to miss out on.

Stephanie Otalora, Electric Hawk:
Hey! Thank you guys so much for taking the time to chat with me!

ARMNHMR: Thanks for having us!

SO: What inspired A Thousand Dreams? How did you come up with the EP name?

ARMNHMR: The first few weeks of the pandemic had hit, and it seemed as if the world (at least to us) had just been put on pause. “A Thousand Dreams” was supposed to be our outlet during the whole pandemic.

SO: What is y’all’s favorite track from the EP?

ARMNHMR: It’s hard to say what our favorite is, but I think at least to us, one of our favorites to play out live is “This Is Goodbye” with Heimanu. It just has this dark and nu-rave vibe that we really haven’t done in a while.

SO: What has been y’all’s favorite collab thus far?

ARMNHMR: Our favorite collab, I think, has to be our track with Nvrleft. It’s gone through so many phases and stages that it’s been a pleasure seeing how much it’s evolved. We first played it a couple of years ago at Spring Awakening and since then have changed it up completely. It’s definitely the one that has seen a ton of miles on the road.

SO: What are you guys most excited about for 2021- since this EP will be released in the last month of 2020?

ARMNHMR: We’re excited for live music just to come back. A lot of us have grown up in the EDM scene, and for us to play out our own music is the best part about the job. We’ve never really played out any new music live, so we’re really excited to do so once things start up again.

SO: What has been the best part of 2020?

ARMNHMR: We think the best part of 2020 was being able to slow down and wrap up all the music we had been sitting on. While touring, we leave a lot of our family and friends behind. Being able to get a routine again was the best part of 2020. It gave us a chance to reconnect with friends, family, and even our fans again.

SO: Who do you most want to work with in the future?

ARMNHMR: Where do we start? So many talented people out there — too many too name. Working with Tom Delonge or even BTS would be something amazing we’ve always dreamed of doing.

SO: Comparing yourself from the start – what is one piece of advice you’d give your past self?

ARMNHMR: Getting yourself to enjoy the process of learning and growing. We spent so many years meeting deadlines/shelving projects that took us some time to really slow down and enjoy the process.

SO: What is some advice you would give to new artists and producers? Especially those struggling to get a start in 2020.

ARMNHMR: Just keep pushing on. Whatever you do, just don’t stop. We all had to start somewhere.

SO: Who is the biggest musical inspiration(s) to ARMNHMR?

ARMNHMR: Both of us have our own personal tastes, but it really comes down to a nice blend of everything. We both share similar tastes that range from indie rock to trap and folk.

SO: COVID, unfortunately, canceled a majority of events in 2020, what are you most excited (and hopeful) for in 2021?

ARMNHMR: Just being able to re-connect with the community we love so much. The world kinda had a realization on how important live music is to people.

SO: Was it hard to work/get inspired during quarantine to focus on this EP? Or did it benefit you by giving more downtime?

ARMNHMR:  It wasn’t difficult at first, but trying to maintain the creative process without shows made certain times feel stale. Our creative process comes from writing on the road and from testing them out at shows. We’ve played out early ideas of our album and built them out as we tested them live. There’s nothing like direct and instant feedback that a show brings. We miss it!

SO: Thanks again for taking the time to chat with us!

ARMNHMR: No, thank you for having us!
