Let’s be real: raving over 25 is still fun, but it comes with many challenges. Our backs sound like bubble wrap, and Bang Energy has lost its magic. We have more responsibilities, more knee pain, and have started using retinol in our skincare routine. And yet…the gremlin inside us still wants to dance.

Whether you’re heading to your fifth camping fest or making a return after a few years off, here’s your survival guide to keep the vibes high (and your spine intact).

Hydration > Hennessy

Gone are the days when you could drink bottom-shelf vodka from a hydration pack and still dance for eight hours. Now, skipping water and electrolytes means waking up with pain and regret.

  • Bring electrolytes and actually use them. Toss a few Liquid I.V. or LMNT packets into your bag, sip throughout the day, and again before bed. Bonus points for adding them to an insulated hydration pack. Your body will thank you later.

Hearing is Sexy

What’s sexier than tinnitus? Hearing your friends’ voices when you’re 40. High-fidelity earplugs will save your ears and your sanity. Eargasm, Loop, or (if you’re feeling fancy) custom molded plugs are worth it. Get them and wear them. Protect your peace and your hearing.

Pack Like a Parent (Even if You’re Not One)

Fanny packs are now survival pouches. Here are some items I recommend bringing to the function:

  • Travel-sized advil
  • Tums
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks (protein bars, electrolyte gummies, or even jerky)
  • Tissues
  • Band-aids
  • A phone charger and a mini electric fan

These items will not only come in handy for yourself, but make you a legend to the people around you.

Sleep is Sacred

Those “three hours of sleep and hit the rail again” days? Over.

Camping? Bring blackout eye masks, earplugs, and whatever you need to be comfortable enough to fall asleep. Hotel life? Blackout curtains and relaxing soundscapes will help get the job done. Also, schedule power naps. Allow your body to rest and recover so it doesn’t all inevitably hit you when it’s over.

Make Peace With the Port-a-Potty

At this point, your digestive system is either a reliable ally or your biggest opp. Either way, it’s crucial to be prepared.

Bring wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and a pack of mini toilet seat covers. Eat foods that your gut actually recognizes. You’re not built like you used to be–and that’s okay.

Plan Your Decompression Before You Go

Post-festival depression is real, and it hits harder at 27 than it did at 22. Take days off work, block out time for silence, and even build a “decompression kit.”

  • Frank Ocean or CharlestheFirst
  • Incense or essential oils
  • Weighted blanket
  • Journaling, yoga, or crying in the shower (valid)

Invest in Comfort

Crocs? Valid. Compression socks? Necessary. A foldable chair with a cup holder and lumbar support? Peak luxury. Prioritize function over fashion (or at least find a good middle ground)–your future knees will thank you.

Choose Events With Intention

You don’t have to say yes to every show, every weekend, or every lineup drop. Let go of FOMO. Start curating your year toward where the energy feels right for you
Quick tip: Smaller, more intentional festivals often offer deeper connections–and shorter bathroom lines.

Your Inner Child Still Wants to Dance

Here’s the real tea: aging in rave culture is a gift. You’ve grown, know your limits, your worth, and your why. You’ve burned out, healed, and come back–and you’re not alone in this.

You’re not too old to rave–you’re too wise not to do it right. Hydrate. Rest. Stretch. Choose festivals with intention. Dance like you belong here, because you do. You are exactly where you need to be.
