Dive into the DNA of Dance Music

Andi Durrant has been a music geek for as long as he can remember. After establishing a career in dance music, releasing his own music, and founding This Is Distorted – he now serves as the Chief Librarian for what may be one of the most concise and convenient online archives for dance music on the planet.

After a grueling 2020, Andi decided to turn his hobby of hoarding into a passion project.

I was having a dig around the loft and came across a couple of boxes of old guest mixes from my radio shows over the years…I found that there’s already thousands of rare and exciting old DJ sets and recordings that people have made and uploaded, but there wasn’t one place to discover them all.  We decided to set about putting it all into one place – a constantly growing and evolving digital museum, which we hope will bring back some amazing memories and provide a place to document the diverse, fascinating and forward-thinking evolution of dance music.

The Dance Music Archive categorizes history, by year, with a convenient pull-down tab at the top of its website. Adding keywords like genres or artist names into the search bar will pull various information at the click of a mouse.

Aside from being an excellent source of knowledge, this is an incredible opportunity for the community. By calling on us to help fill the archive, it becomes a group project. A community-driven backlog of anything and everything dance music. Sounds like my kinda party.

If you’re interested in adding to the archive, click here.

And if you’re looking for new music, keep up with our weekly Spotify Playlist, Fresh Hunts, or follow us on Twitch. Whether it’s the newest drops from all your favorite artists, some old school, or underground—we just want you to hear it.

Do you sell a product that our readers would enjoy? Are you planning an event that our audience should attend? Does your organization make the world a better place? If so, Electric Hawk provides a myriad of options to advertise on our website through the community-centric platform we’ve built. For more information on advertising with Electric Hawk, click here.
