From much anticipation, Poni delivers her debut EP POWERLESS, released through Sounds of Mayhem on February 23rd. Poni appears away from the shadows to deliver her most thundering and impactful collection of releases yet. We step inside the core of inner emotion at its peak as we embark on a journey of human emotions. Through all the grueling and treacherous challenges that come into our lives, feeling powerless, Poni proclaims that there is a ton of resilience with us.
“Originally, I hadn’t imagined these songs fitting together in a body of work until I realized they all had a common theme… Powerless, Misery, Parasite, Suffering… All very desolate titles. While working on these songs over the last few years, through the hardest times of my life, I was pouring my feelings of depression, anger, pain, anxiety, frustration, and stress without even realizing it into writing them, and I think it shows.”

Through the obscurity within the darkness, we hear the cries from Qoiet pleading into the void. “I’m feeling powerless, so go…” echoing in the shadows as we feel the trembling pain in their voice. “POWERLESS” extrudes the introduction of the true human experience from Poni. From the pounding production that broils our blood to the sonic waves rattling our bones, Poni escalates the pressure that lingers inside. With the brooding mass building shelter in our spirits, the duo finds ways to shatter its sanctuary to combat it face-on. While our desolate bodies fall to our knees, we fully witness the aberration now standing in front, watching our “SUFFERING.“
While marks cover all over our skin, our eyes meet the dark figure as its faceless expressions crawl through our souls. After the time passes, we push ourselves back on our feet as we hear the voice of WISNER‘s words carry us. With the help of the impactful lyrics, we begin to replenish our strength with ourselves. “SUFFERING” ascends over time through its production from the rollercoaster of torment we experience until we hit our boiling point. Poni accomplishes the ultimate emulation towards the second act of the track, fully unleashing through the Rocktronic-drop that crashes down and fractures our “MISERY” to open the gates to overcome the chaos.
Overcoming the chaos and invigorating through the pain.
Now, a shift occurs towards the second half of POWERLESS as we fully grasp ahold of the pain. “MISERY” grabs the audience and puts them in the driver’s seat to go full speed into the storm. The track goes through a combination of drum and bass influences that elevate our heart rate as we feel the pulses of the dark matter swarm around us. Until we reach the climax, shifting gears and having all the elements go berserk, we settle into the conclusion of our journey – the “PARASITE” that lies within our mind.
While everything slowly settles, with the embers descending around and smoke engulfing our vision, we feel the suffocation of our trauma begin to ease. “PARASITE” becomes this beacon of reminiscence of our pasts that bottles up inside. The true blockage is ourselves, and Poni truly displays that with the finale track of her EP. The track encompasses everything with the chain reaction of dynamic lyrics and seismic production that rages by the chaotic atmosphere. And to wrap up the debut, Poni leaves us with a message, “can’t sit around and watch you go when I gave you everything.”

In the end, Poni makes a big declaration to the world with her debut EP. POWERLESS delivers an authentic and therapeutic experience of human emotions that the audience can connect to. It allows the crowd to unleash the agony that idles inside and remove the blockade in their growth. Through all the hardships, Poni showcases that we can battle obstacles. Naturally, POWERLESS is the perfect embodiment of wanting to scream and regain control of your life, like a collection of tracks that refuel that spark to combat the challenges that come. Despite the chaos, Poni reminds us that we are never “powerless” and that it’s okay to be vulnerable with our emotions.
“I discovered Poni last year when Qoiet sent me their song together. I then heard all her unreleased music and knew immediately I had to sign it (including the song with Qoiet). The collection of songs fits perfectly with the ethos of the label – all very well-crafted rocktronic songs full of passion and grit. This EP showcases the side of genre blending that I love unearthing and is one of the big reasons I started this label. I’m excited for you to hear Poni’s debut EP ‘POWERLESS.'”

Through the journey Poni has encountered through her artistry, she showcases to the world how impactful her music truly is. Also, she is already capturing the limelight from the scene, getting to perform at her first festival in the summer at Beyond Wonderland at The Gorge and performing her first few sets of the year in Colorado and Chicago. The ascension of Poni is not one to ignore. And we are eager to witness what is next for her. But for now, we will continue to rage along to POWERLESS with everyone in the background!
