Few artists embody the full spectrum of UK bass music quite like Flava D. After more than a decade of shape-shifting between UKG, grime, bassline, and drum & bass, her Here & Now LP is already a defining moment in her career. Out September 5th, this debut drum & bass album isn’t just another addition to her stacked catalog–it’s a statement of presence, versatility, and evolution.
A Decade in The Making
Here & Now enters her repertoire as both a natural artistic progression and a bold new chapter. Signing with Hospital Records in 2020, one of the most iconic drum & bass labels in the world, feels like a full-circle moment. Flava D has spoken about being a teenage fan of the label, buying their first mix CD at just 14. Two decades later, she’s not only a part of the roster, but she’s bringing a fresh perspective shaped by years in the world of UK dance music.

The Sound of Here & Now
The concept behind Here & Now reflects its title. Much of the record was born in lockdown, when the absence of the club forced producers to reimagine their sound in isolation. For Flava D, that meant resisting the temptation to make a purely liquid album, knowing it wouldn’t translate to the energy of her post-lockdown sets. Instead, she wrote with future club sets in mind—and it shines across all 15 tracks.
The result is a project that flows between soulful rollers, gritty steppers, and rave-indebted bangers. It’s not about sticking to one lane, but embodying the many sides of her artistry. Flava D’s Here & Now LP delivers a bass-fuelled image of her rave-ready sound.
Spotlight Tracks
While the entire album deserves a front-to-back listen, a few tracks showcase Flava D at her sharpest.
“Reesey Thing” — Originally teased as “Reesey Bass,” this is Flava at her most playful and explosive. With a euphoric piano element, vocal chops, and groovy energy, it’s easy to see why she’s called it one of her personal favorites.
“Entertainer” (with Anais & Dread MC) — This song takes you on a rollercoaster—flipping from smooth to savage in seconds. Anais’ atmospheric touch paired with Dread MC’s unmistakable vocal command makes this a surefire crowd mover. It’s a razor-sharp showcase of Flava D’s genre-blending abilities.
“Can’t Get It Back” (with SOLAH) — On the opposite end of the spectrum, this tune showcases Flava’s soulful side. Warm keys, crisp percussion, and SOLAH’s stunning vocals create an audio snapshot of golden hour. It takes you on a journey without losing that signature Flava D bounce. This track shows that drum & bass can be both soulful and dance-floor-ready.
Together, these tracks reflect the diversity of Here & Now: it’s an album that can soundtrack both the car ride home and the peak of a warehouse set.
The Future of Here & Now
Albums like Here & Now represent shifts in the culture. Drum & bass is having a renaissance, with new generations discovering the genre at festivals and online. Flava D isn’t just participating in this wave—she’s shaping it.
With Here & Now, Flava D doesn’t just prove she can hold her own in drum & bass—she asserts herself as one of its most vital voices. It’s an album that speaks to her past, her present, and the energy she’s bringing to the future of UK dance music. Whether you’re a longtime follower or just stepping into her world, this album is an essential listen.
