Orlando-based audiovisual artist Anthony Douglas, known as Dewpoint, has unveiled a vibrant look into his mind with his newest EP, Through My Eyes. Dewpoint does not shy from pushing the envelope of sound and visuals. Frequently inspired by genres like breakbeat, jungle, and two-step, he seamlessly blends varieties of sound into captivating narrative journeys for listeners to get absorbed in.
Take a perspective change and look Through My Eyes
The first track of the EP, titled “really,” is a strong opener with funky and bouncy notes that greet the listener. The song quickly picks up its tempo and then jaunts into a glitchy groove. This track is an immediate heavy hitter, with vocals proudly proclaiming, “Real recognize real!” It is an absolutely fun song, instantly showcasing Dewpoint’s ability to blend multiple layers of sound design into a striking anthem.
Dewpoint begs the question, “where do we go?” with the title of the second song on this EP. This song winds up with powerful drums that pair deliciously with impactful and distorted bass. Dewpoint grinds deeper into glitchy sounds with this song, flaunting excellent pacing throughout the tune.
The third song is the title track of this release, called “through my eyes.” This song opens with melodic notes and a gentle wind-up. The track is nothing short of mesmerizing. Dynamic and pulsating beats carry the pace of the song alongside head-nodding rhythmic drums. About halfway through the song, the beat switches and leans more into glitch-hop-inspired sounds. This song makes it very difficult for listeners to sit still!
Rounding out this amazing EP is the final song titled “differently.” While this is the final track on the EP, there is no momentum lost. Dewpoint holds the trajectory here perfectly, with crunchy and energetic notes afloat a breakbeat-adjacent rhythm.
“My EPs and albums each aim to express a healthy, wide range of emotions. Sometimes we might feel confident, unbearably alone, empathetic, ready for the future, or so many other vibrant feelings that make us human. As a man who’s been diagnosed with schizo-effective disorder, I’m often encouraged by the stigma to hide my emotions or ‘keep my emotions in check,’ and while along the way I’ve learned how to better understand how I’m feeling at any given time. I think it’s healthy to recognize how we might be feeling instead of avoiding them to appear ‘normal’ enough.”
