The time has sadly come where we now have our first few major festival cancellations of 2021. Things just started to seem “normal” and then the COVID Delta variant came and put us in our place. So far, Buku: Planet B and Interstellar Meltdown have canceled their 2021 events.
The biggest cancellation that we’ve seen so far comes from Buku: Planet B.
Buku normally takes place in March in New Orleans, but rescheduled for October of this year, hoping to avoid what we thought was the worst of COVID. But now, as we all know, COVID still hasn’t gone away, and new variants are running rampant. There’s lots of disappointment surrounding this announcement, but in order to keep the scene safe, we will probably be seeing more and more of these cancellations.
On a high note, Buku did tell his followers that the lineup for 2022 is looking amazing. So, there is hope.
In addition to Buku: Planet B, Interstellar Meltdown also cancelled their festival a few days ago.
These are the only major festival cancellations for 2021 that we know of so far, and we hope it’s the last of them. But, if COVID keeps going the way it has, this might become more and more normal in the next couple of weeks.
So, stay safe, get vaccinated, wear your mask, and socially distance yourself. We’ve gone too long without festivals and shows already, which has hurt the scene, and we can’t afford for this to happen again! With that, I leave you with a plea from a touring professional.
