Get out your calendars, wavebabes and bass fiends: we’re heading to Symmetry Music & Arts Festival this summer. Hosted in Libertyville, Iowa, this festival is the not-to-miss event of the season–and last week, they unveiled their dreamy debut lineup.
This week, however, brings even bigger news: the secret headliner has been announced!
Featuring over 50 artists from the bass and wave music scenes, this festival is not only a celebration of bass, but a celebration of grassroots communities and their ability to create truly immersive, inclusive events.
Let’s get a glimpse at what’s in store for us, shall we?
Symmetry Music & Arts Festival 2024
“Our mission is to cultivate a grassroots community atmosphere, fostering inspiration, creativity and genuine, long-lasting connections with each other – all while enjoying the most forward-thinking immersive art and sound technology.”
– Neil Merchant (Festival Director)
The Bass-ics
Symmetry Music & Arts Festival will take place on ten acres of idyllic midwestern landscapes in southeast Iowa on September 13-14. Festival curators also planned a special pre-party for the day before (September 12) – more details to come.
This will be a camping festival, with immersive art installations, workshops hosted by local nonprofits, food trucks, vendors, and all sorts of other goodies on site for attendees to enjoy all weekend long.
Symmetry Music & Arts Festival released its inaugural lineup last week, with one secret headliner left to announce. The lineup features all sorts of talent from the bass and wave music scenes, including Of The Trees, A Hundred Drums, Sippy, UZ, deadcrow, Onhell, Hex Cougar, Poni, and barnacle boi. Exciting, right?
What’s even more exciting is that the festival announced its secret headliner: Ravenscoon, who recently spearheaded Denver’s ‘Wave and Rage’ weekend, and has generally been advocating for underground bass and wave artists for quite some time now–we can’t imagine a better fit!
With a record number of wave artists on the lineup, including many OG wave producers like MRKRYL, Just Connor, w/out, and of course, Plastician himself, as well as some other exciting names from in and around the wave community, like TIGEREYES, KTrek, Nick Neutronz, and xtn, it’s clear that Symmetry Music & Arts Festival is certainly going to be making waves with this one.
Turning dreams into reality
Two groups with deep roots in the underground joined forces in order to bring Symmetry Music & Arts Festival to life: vibe.digital and Lucid Journeys.
vibe.digital is known for giving wave music a nurturing home in North America and for their radio show, which features a diverse cast of underground talent from around the world.
On the other hand, Lucid Journeys is known throughout the Midwest for their community-centric events that feature the perfect environment for making meaningful connections and for their world-class, purpose-built sound systems.
With track records like theirs, we can only imagine the sort of magic that these two groups will make together.
The great news is… there’s only a few months left before we find out!
In addition to the music, Symmetry Music & Arts Festival will feature workshops, games, and other interactivity with local nonprofits and community members. The festival also provides attendees with a unique opportunity to get lost in surreal art installations created by local and national artists.
If you enjoyed the sort of art installations found at Electric Forest, Shambhala, or Lost Lands, then you’re definitely going to like this: Neil Merchant, one of the brains behind Symmetry Music & Arts Festival, is also the artist behind those experiences (above).
With that said, you know you can trust that the art at this festival will be equally dazzling, if not more.
More news to come
