An unexpected crossover has taken place between the jam & electronic scenes. Goose released Everything Must Go Remixed. Prior to this release, the only official remixes have been with the LP Giobbi back in 2023. The band brings her back again on this album along with a heroic lineup of artists. Goose is joined by Chromeo, Daily Bread, Maddy O’Neal, Bad Snacks and even Dan the Automator of Deltron 3030.
The original Everything Must Go album is a tried and true Goose album. They share stories about life through their evocative lyrics and jam solos take listeners on a spiritual journey. Each of the 14 remixed tracks tell the same tale but from a different point of view.
Experiencing a Goose show live is always a treat. The energy builds throughout their sets and hearing a new improvisation on your favorite track takes the cake. Everything Must Go Remixed is new territory but portrays a feeling of familiarity. The album feels like a rare late night set you would stumble upon at a multi-genre festival. This could easily be played out at the Summer Camp Red Barn, the Bonnaroo After Hours, or a secret location you found out about through a niche Discord channel.
Get Up and Move Your Body
Instead of keeping the same track order, Goose completely rearranged this album. The decision to change up the song order feels intentional and well-suited for these remixes. It opens with a beach house funk energy, shifts to slightly heavier bass territory through the middle, and morphs into a moody livetronica soundscape by the end. Everything Must Go Remixed starts off with Chromeo’s electro-funk remix of “Your Direction”. It’s faster, synthier, and is a hell of a track to begin on. Louis The Child immediately follows up with a bouncy remix of “Animal”, which is already such a fun track.
ODESZA fans will especially enjoy Naomi Wild’s take on “Silver Rising”. Her cover of this track is beautifully done, bringing it into a melodic, atmospheric realm. “California Magic (Doey Joey Remix)” keeps the groove moving with piano chords that tickle your eardrums. “Everything Must Go (Maddy O’Neal Remix)” is the most bass-heavy track on the album. Its upbeat energy is good for the soul.
One of the most surprising but exciting collaborations is with Daily Bread. His rendition of “Red Bird” is a seamless crossover that feels like it was destined for none other than the Cloud Conductor himself. Last but not least, “Lead Up (Dan The Automator Remix)” tastefully rounds out this remixed album with sci-fi notes that would feel right at home on an Artemis II astronaut’s playlist.
Everything Must Go Remixed excellently fuses the not-so-distant jam and electronic scenes. It will be interesting to see whether the band explores something similar in the future. Goose will be kicking off their spring tour this weekend and headlining with a special two-hour set at Florida Groves Music & Arts Festival.
