Through an exclusive premiere with Electric Hawk, Mikayli unveils his latest single, “Echoes,” a melancholic journey through mounting tension, shifting realities, and quiet moments of release—capturing the strange serenity that emerges when we surrender to both the stillness and chaos unfolding around us.
“Echoes” was created somewhere between New York and Kansas City, during a flight to a gig. I had been listening to Don Toliver’s latest album and immediately connected with “Secondhand.” I pulled the vocals from the track and began warping and reshaping the melody, using it as the foundation for a completely new drum and bass-driven record.
From there, the track developed around textured Reese basses, rolling breaks, and an underlying sense of emotional tension. I wanted to create something that felt constantly in motion, with each element building on the last and carrying the energy from start to finish. “Echoes” ultimately became a blend of the emotional qualities that drew me to the original song but with the heavier, more dynamic sound I wanted to explore through drum and bass.”

Finding Serenity in the Distortion
