Beginning his career at only 16 years old under the alias Signal, Dutch producer and artist IMANU has become one of the youngest, most successful faces in experimental electronic music. Over the years, he has increased his caliber tenfold, diving deep into the untouched corners of bass music. His newest release, “It Doesn’t Matter,“ is the latest in a string of singles leading up to his spring EP.
“It Doesn’t Matter”
IMANU is known for versatility and creativity, but “It Doesn’t Matter” deviates significantly from his usual production style. The track introduces us to an entirely new side of IMANU’s knowledge of production. Furthermore, the piece itself is insanely danceable, incredibly layered, and invokes a feeling that one can only hope to experience from tuning into a dance music track. Moreover, it supplies listeners with an insight into the melodic and sensual side of the IMANU project which we hope to see more of.
“It Doesn’t Matter” is light, airy, and intentional, all the while hitting the listener’s ear just as intensely as IMANU’s more hardcore works.
Lyrically, the track draws you in further to the overall feeling of conflict portrayed throughout the piece. Throughout the track, the spectacularly talented vocalist Emilia Ali pleads and eventually gives in to the reason for the expressed internal turmoil. Balanced with melodic synths and a sultry deep house centerpiece, “It Doesn’t Matter” features production that reflects and balances this aura of conflict wonderfully. The track’s vocal chops only add to this, honing in on the repeated questioning and confusion regarding oneself. Overall, “It Doesn’t Matter” is an enticing dip into yet another phenomenal genre-bending release from IMANU.
IMANU’s full EP will be released on Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats label in the coming months, and we cannot wait to hear it in its entirety.
