FUTURA X Presents: WAVURA, a Historic Night of Wave Music

When the full WAVURA lineup was announced, it became very clear that FUTURA X is on a mission to turn Dallas into the premier destination for live wave music in the United States–or at least one of them.

FUTURA X’s line-ups are always lovingly curated, and this next one is no exception. The event was described by FUTURA X as “celebrating the sonic frontier of trap, wave, hardwave, and phonk”–so if you’re a longtime wave fan, or if you’re someone who is looking for a holistic way to get into these genres, then WAVURA is for you. The lineup features a fabulous mix of artists from all over the world, including some truly historic names in wave. Let’s dive in.

FUTURA X Presents: WAVURA

Yeah, it’s a lot to take in — so let’s hit the highlight reel, shall we?

WAVURA will be taking place on September 27 in Dallas, TX, at The Green Elephant. The event features two stages with impressive lineups.

For headliners, we have Skeler on the outside stage, and Plastician on the inside stage. Both of these artists are considered to be instrumental in the development of the wave genre, albeit during slightly different ‘eras’. Plastician is widely regarded as the primary ‘founder’ of the wave genre, especially in its early, ‘softer’ years, via his Rinse FM show. He is also behind terrorhythm, the music label that released the genre-defining Wavepool compilations. Skeler, on the other hand, is considered to be responsible for evangelizing the more energetic, ‘hardwave’ side of the genre. You may be familiar with Skeler’s iconic N i g h t D r i v e スケラー series (and if you’re not, you should definitely get familiar).

“FUTURA X wants to help build an inclusive community aligned with the wave sound and aesthetic. We are focused on bringing the wave and trap culture to Dallas, so be on the lookout for upcoming shows!”

– FUTURA X

The headliners aren’t the only exciting thing about WAVURA; the support line-up is also excellent. Not only do you have an opportunity to see talented FUTURA X event alumni like SAGE, xala, AWVRE (B2B) Bright Ideas, STM, CULTTASTIC, and KUNAII, but you can also experience live sets from international wave stars Juche and enjoii. Also featured on the lineup are two of the most industrious producers in the scene, TomKillsJerry and Nick Neutronz, whose discographies are ever-expanding. All in all, WAVURA is almost like a miniature Symmetry Festival, so those of you who are unable to make it to Fairfield in October may want to think about heading to Dallas instead.

You can get your WAVURA tickets here.

Want to experience wave in a live setting, but can’t get to Dallas?

There’s a lot of opportunities to see these artists live in the coming months. For example, WAVURA is actually the first stop on skeler’s international ‘HARDWAVE’ tour. Additionally, SAGE is co-headlining a US tour with MRJay in August, with CULTTASTIC and TomKillsJerry among the supporting acts. You can also find about half of the WAVURA lineup performing at this year’s Symmetry Festival in Iowa.
