Zeds Dead’s release of their long awaited collab album, We Are Deadbeats Vol. 4, feels like a flex. With freshly dropped collaborations with Deathpact, Holly, DNMO, Champagne Drip, and more, every song on this massive 14 track compilation highlights not only the talents of the artists featured and the signature stylings of The Boys™, but really shows how in tune Deadbeats is with the sounds from both heavy hitters and names to watch actively in EDM today.
We’ve always wanted Deadbeats to be a home for as many unique artists and sounds as possible, and we wanted to create a collection of tracks that had the same sense of variety that the Deadbeats releases and events have had since the start.
Zeds Dead
Bouncing from house to drum and bass and several other genres, there’s a lot of sound to explore.
We took the time to break down and also highlight three of our personal standouts.
First things first, “Save My Grave” is the undisputed star of We Are Deadbeats vol. 4.
Future bass done at its highest is a love letter to EDM. It’s cinematic and lush, and this song pulled off something special. DNMO cultivated, distilled, and weaved magic through every synth and sample of this certified honker. And if you could be tucked in and kissed on the forehead by sound, it would be that second drop. It’s in the key of uwu and the bpm is at the exact same tempo of our heartbeats, and that’s just our professional unbiased opinion. But on a serious note, before we hit play again, who wants to admit they have feelings for us?
We’ve been waiting for Zeds Dead to drop “Dead of Night” since it turned our brains into scrambled eggs at Electric Forest last summer.
The build sounds like how it feels to chew five gum, and the drop is realizing the gum was actually a strip. Pairing Ganja White Night‘s elements along with that signature ZD growl will always be *chefs kiss*. There’s something about the balancing act of an abrasive drop that you can still dance to.
“Leave You In The Ground” is the closest we’ve had to a Zeds Dead original since 2017’s “Woman Wine,” and we’re emotional about it.
Omar LinX is at full power and lyrically in his element on this track. The boys and Omar go together like mac and dairy-free cashew based cheese, like organic peanut butter and seasonal berry compote, and like this article and overusing similes. This song is going to smash live.
Other honorable mentions include the drum and bass “Sound of the Underground,” the bouncy house bop “Just Wanna,” and the extra thicc collab with Champagne Drip, “After the Water,” that we need to hear and bathe in on a proper sound rig to fully grasp.
While we, and many others, are ready for Zeds Dead’s long awaited sophomore album (and obviously the Bassnectar collab), the benefit of having such a diverse collection of sounds is that every day since its release we’ve found a new song to match the vibe.
