Chee and Tsuruda Showcase Their Talent on Latest Release, 'trailblazer'

Chee. Tsuruda. There’s not much more that needs to be said to get excited. Two of the biggest rising stars of the bass music world have combined for a thumping collab. “Trailblazer” is the culmination of two brilliant and talented minds coming together on a project. Both of these artists have been taking the scene by storm lately, and this is just the beginning.

The momentum for Chee and Tsuruda is at an all time high, and we absolutely love to see it.

Tsuruda has been on a tear, releasing banger after banger this year. The Goldies Beats EP that came out earlier this year was a speaker-busting thriller. I still rinse “Copout Dub” on the daily. Then, the Migi EP that was released on one of my favorites, 1985 Music, just blew us away in the most extraordinary way. The title track, “Migi,” is possibly the dubstep tune of the year.

Meanwhile, Chee has been dominating in his own regard. The Paralysis Analysis EP that released on Deadbeats earlier this year is untouchable. On top of that, the South African producer just tore up Lost Lands. Neither of these artists are afraid to push boundaries within their artistic realm, and that has resulted in some next-level music for us to enjoy.

I’ve been having a really hard time finding words for this collaboration with CHEE. What is it like to work with the guy? I’ll be honest. I’ve worked with a lot of producers over the years. I’ve seen many workflows… No one does it like CHEE.

Each artist showcases their signature sound, while meshing with each other perfectly. Creating the environment for a one-of-a-kind collaboration.

The compressed, punchy drums. The hard-hitting, chest-thumping bassline. The ominous melody ringing along. Perfectly cut vocal chops. Every element about this tune just screams Chee and Tsuruda. It is the perfect showcase of each individual’s skill set molded expertly with their counterpart.

“Trailblazer” starts out ominously with a spacey intro before flawlessly breaking down into a catchy bassline. The two bring in a vocal and pick up the energy, leading us spectacularly into the drop. The first twenty seconds are a masterclass in minimal sound. As the drop continues on, Chee and Tsuruda begin to add different elements. The song paints a more psychedelic landscape, as more high-pitched synths make their way into the mix. All the while, the structure, and beat-focused style remain prevalent.

Forty seconds in, the song takes on a life of its own. The bass now takes the forefront, and the two artists aggressively flaunt their sound design. You can just feel the energy bursting at the seams through your headphones. Then, as if it never happened, the tune smoothly flows back into the original pattern of the drop. The vocals now became clearer and easier to pick up on. The head-bouncing beat continues on for a small stint before finally fading into calmness.

“Trailblazer” is an absolute flex from both of these artists. The sound design? Impeccable. The flow? Phenomenal. The vocal usage? Admirable. We all know how good Chee and Tsuruda are, but they left no room for doubt after this masterpiece. It is a straight-up slapper, ready to absolutely ruin dancefloors. Speaking of, this collab comes at the perfect time.

The first time I heard “Trailblazer,” my mind instantly went to, I need to see both of them, now. Well, lucky enough, Chee and Tsuruda are touring together as we speak.
